Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has admitted that his team’s weaknesses become more obvious when they face physically demanding sides such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
The teenage winger was speaking to Movistar when he discussed the different challenges Barcelona face against Europe’s top clubs and explained why he sees matches against teams like Bayern and PSG as particularly demanding.
According to Yamal, Barcelona can struggle more against sides that combine physical strength with an intense approach, forcing players to work hard and remain concentrated for the entire match.
“Our weak point stands out more against teams like Bayern or PSG,” Yamal said.
“They’re teams with more physical strength and they force you to run a lot and stay focused throughout the entire match.”
The Barcelona youngster believes the situation is somewhat different when his side faces Arsenal.
Rather than expecting a game dominated by physical battles and constant running, Yamal described an Arsenal match as being more tactical, with possession likely to play a major role.
“In contrast, Arsenal is a more tactical match, one that focuses more on ball possession,” he added.
Yamal Highlights the Challenge of Facing Europe’s Best
Yamal’s comments underline the different demands involved when Barcelona come up against elite European opposition.
Bayern and PSG are known for their ability to apply pressure, attack quickly and force opponents into intense physical battles. Against such teams, Barcelona need to be able to cope with long periods of pressure while maintaining concentration.
For a young player like Yamal, these matches also provide an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to perform at the highest level.
The 19-year-old has already established himself as one of Barcelona’s most important attacking players, and his performances in major European games continue to attract significant attention.
Yamal Names PSG Among the Favourites
Yamal also gave his thoughts on PSG’s chances of competing for another major European trophy.
The Barcelona winger believes the French club should be considered among the favourites, but he pointed out that defending a title can be considerably more difficult than winning it for the first time.
“I think PSG is one of the favorites, but their problem is that winning again after already having won is something very difficult. That’s the hardest thing in football,” Yamal explained.
“When you win a title, winning it again is the most complicated part.”
PSG have experienced the pressure that comes with being European champions, and Yamal believes repeating that success would present an entirely different challenge.
Barcelona Facing Another Test
Yamal’s comments come as Barcelona prepare for another demanding period of European football, with the club expected to face some of the strongest teams on the continent.
For Barcelona, success will not only depend on their technical quality and ability to control possession. They will also need to show that they can handle the physical intensity and pressure that comes with facing Europe’s most powerful sides.
Yamal’s assessment provides an interesting insight into how Barcelona’s players view their biggest European challenges.
While the youngster sees Arsenal as a more tactical opponent, he believes Bayern Munich and PSG can expose Barcelona’s weaknesses by turning matches into intense physical contests.
With the Champions League providing another opportunity to test themselves against Europe’s elite, Yamal and his Barcelona teammates will need to prove they can adapt to different styles if they want to compete for the biggest honours.
