Liverpool could be looking at another major attacking signing as they continue to search for a long-term solution on the right side of their attack following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
Replacing Salah was always going to be a difficult task for Liverpool, and so far, the club have not been able to find a direct replacement for the Egyptian forward.
Several attacking players were linked with a move to Anfield during the summer, but none of those deals eventually materialised.
For now, Liverpool have shared the responsibility between the attackers already at the club. However, another winger is expected to remain high on their list of priorities in the next transfer windows.
The Reds have already spent more than £650 million across their last three transfer windows, which could raise questions about how much money will be available for another major signing.
However, a new report suggests Liverpool could still be prepared to make a significant financial commitment for the right player.
Liverpool keeping an eye on Raphinha
Since leaving the Premier League in 2022, Raphinha has developed into one of the most important attacking players at Barcelona.
The Brazilian has been a regular starter for the Spanish giants and has enjoyed some impressive spells since moving to Camp Nou. At one point, his performances were even strong enough for him to be mentioned among the potential Ballon d’Or contenders.
His situation at Barcelona, however, appears to be changing.
According to a report from Ekrem Konur, Raphinha has asked Barcelona to double his current salary during negotiations over a new contract.
The Brazilian reportedly wants to become the highest-paid player at the club.
That situation has apparently attracted attention from elsewhere, with Liverpool among the clubs said to be monitoring developments.
Konur claims the Reds would be willing to offer Raphinha a significant salary if they decided to pursue a deal.
According to Capology, the 29-year-old currently earns around £270,000 per week. Barcelona’s highest-paid player is reportedly Rodri, who earns approximately £445,000 per week.
Matching or exceeding those figures would therefore represent a major financial commitment from Liverpool.
And wages would not be the only issue.
Raphinha still has just under two years remaining on his Barcelona contract, meaning Liverpool would also have to negotiate a substantial transfer fee if they wanted to bring him back to the Premier League.
Would Liverpool really make the move?
There is no doubt that Raphinha would give Liverpool another dangerous option in attack.
He is comfortable playing on the right wing, which is precisely the area where the Reds need more depth following Salah’s departure.
However, the financial side of the deal could make things complicated.
Raphinha will turn 30 in December, and Liverpool would potentially have to pay a sizeable transfer fee while also handing him one of the biggest salaries at the club.
That may not fit with the club’s approach to recruitment.
Liverpool could therefore continue to monitor the Brazilian’s situation without necessarily making a move.
For now, Raphinha appears to be on their radar, but a transfer to Anfield would seem difficult unless his wage demands come down considerably.
Still, with Liverpool searching for another attacking option, his name is one that could continue to appear in transfer discussions over the coming months.
