Chelsea could make another move for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January, but Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool could have an advantage if the midfielder eventually decides to leave the Vitality Stadium.
According to a report by Football London on Sunday, September 20, 2026, Chelsea remain interested in Scott after trying to sign him during the summer transfer window.
The Blues reportedly made a £64 million bid for the Bournemouth midfielder, but the offer was turned down. Despite that setback, Chelsea are expected to keep an eye on the situation, particularly after Enzo Fernandez’s departure and their failure to land Lamine Camara from Monaco.
Scott has also turned down the opportunity to sign a new contract at Bournemouth, leaving his long-term future at the club uncertain. Several major European clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Liverpool were among the clubs linked with Scott during the summer, while Manchester United have also been mentioned as a potential destination.
However, Carragher believes Liverpool could have an important advantage in any future battle for the midfielder’s signature.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender praised Scott’s ability and suggested that the 22-year-old could eventually outgrow Bournemouth if he continues developing at his current rate.
Carragher also pointed to the quality within Bournemouth’s squad and suggested that the club’s current situation could play a role in Scott’s next decision.
Scott has become an important player for Bournemouth and has developed a strong relationship with the supporters. His celebration after scoring against Everton was another indication of the connection he has built with the club’s fans.
Despite that, his decision to reject a new contract has naturally raised questions about what comes next.
For Chelsea, Scott would address an obvious need in midfield. The Blues have lost some creativity following Fernandez’s departure and could also benefit from having a player capable of covering several attacking positions.
Scott’s versatility is one of his biggest strengths. He can operate as an advanced number eight, contribute goals from midfield and also provide an option further forward when players such as Cole Palmer or Morgan Rogers are unavailable.
Chelsea’s previous £64 million offer shows just how highly they value him, but Bournemouth’s rejection suggests they could demand considerably more if they are eventually forced to sell.
Alan Shearer has already suggested that Scott could be worth around £100 million, particularly given the circumstances surrounding his contract.
