Liverpool could be preparing a major move for one of Brentford’s key figures, with the club reportedly considering Lee Dykes as a candidate for their vacant sporting director position.
The Reds have also entered the race for highly-rated Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, who has emerged as a potential long-term replacement for Jeremie Frimpong.
Brentford have made an impressive start to the new Premier League season, collecting nine points from their opening five games to sit fourth in the table. Liverpool, meanwhile, are sixth, with the two sides separated only by goal difference.
The Bees have built a strong squad through smart recruitment in recent years, with players such as Kevin Schade, Igor Thiago, Michael Kayode and Nathan Collins among those attracting attention.
However, Liverpool’s interest could extend beyond Brentford’s playing squad.
Liverpool considering Brentford’s Lee Dykes
According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Brentford chief Lee Dykes is one of the names being considered by Liverpool as they look for a new sporting director.
Liverpool are searching for a replacement for Richard Hughes, who recently left the club to take up a role with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Julian Ward, currently Liverpool’s technical director, is also being considered for the position. However, the club’s owners are reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing in another senior figure to work alongside him.
Dykes could appeal to Liverpool because of his role in Brentford’s recruitment strategy. The Bees have developed a reputation for identifying talented players and making smart decisions in the transfer market, and Dykes has been an important part of that structure.
Liverpool enter race for Givairo Read
Liverpool are also reportedly keeping an eye on Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read.
The 20-year-old Dutch defender is being considered as a possible replacement for fellow Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong, whose long-term future at Anfield has reportedly raised some concerns.
Liverpool have now joined Everton and Nottingham Forest in showing interest in Read, although neither of those clubs managed to secure his signature during the summer transfer window.
Read has made an excellent start to the season and has already registered five assists in the Eredivisie, further increasing his profile.
Arsenal and Manchester City are also understood to be monitoring the youngster, meaning Liverpool could face competition if they decide to make a move in January.
Mac Allister addresses Liverpool future
Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister has once again spoken about his future at Liverpool after previously expressing his disappointment at not being offered a new contract.
The Argentina international still has two years remaining on his current deal, which runs until June 2028, and insists he is fully focused on enjoying his time at Anfield.
Mac Allister explained that his previous comments were more about his emotions at the time rather than criticism of Liverpool’s management.
He remains open to staying at the club beyond his current contract but accepts that there is still plenty of time for things to change.
For now, the midfielder says he is enjoying life at Liverpool and wants to make the most of his time at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
