Manchester United could have another opportunity to strengthen their squad in January, with reports suggesting they have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.
The Red Devils are expected to consider additions during the winter transfer window after focusing heavily on their midfield during the summer.
United spent around £150 million on Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while Karl Darlow and several promising youngsters also arrived at Old Trafford.
However, the club may feel that other areas of the squad were left short. Left-back, centre-back, left-wing and the striker position have all been highlighted as areas that could require strengthening when the January window opens.
Manchester United set to announce Liverpool youngster
While United continue to look at potential first-team additions, they are also working on deals for the future.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United have completed an agreement to sign 16-year-old Liverpool midfielder Isaac Konde.
Romano initially revealed earlier this month that the deal had been completed, writing on X:
“Manchester United have completed deal to sign 16-year-old midfielder Isaac Konde from Liverpool, here we go!
“All set for #MUFC move as formal steps have been completed in the last 24 hours.”
Romano then provided another update on Friday morning, confirming that the youngster is now set to be officially announced as a Manchester United player.
He wrote: “Manchester United are set to announce 16-year-old winger Isaac Konde as new signing from Liverpool.
“Story from two weeks ago, confirmed as #MUFC are set for official announcement.”
The move underlines United’s desire to continue adding young talent to their squad, even as they search for immediate reinforcements.
Manchester United offered Alejandro Balde opportunity
For the first team, a new left-back could be one of United’s priorities in January, and Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde has emerged as a possible option.
United were previously linked with Balde during the summer as they considered alternatives to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall.
According to journalist Mark Brus, Manchester United have now been offered another opportunity to pursue the Barcelona defender when the January transfer window opens.
Speaking to Caught Offside, Brus claimed that Barcelona could be more open to selling players in January after failing to move several names on during the summer.
He said: “Barcelona are expected to be active sellers in the January transfer window after struggling to get some names off their books during the summer.
“Multiple sources have confirmed to me that this has already sparked some interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool after they were approached about a player via intermediaries.”
Balde’s situation could therefore be worth watching in the coming months.
However, there is still a major question over whether the player himself would be interested in leaving Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Balde wanted to remain at the Catalan club despite interest from Manchester United.
United may have another chance to pursue the left-back in January, but any potential deal could ultimately depend on Barcelona’s willingness to sell and Balde’s own stance on a move.
