Arsenal have reportedly made contact over a possible January move for Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo.
According to a report by Football London on Saturday, September 26, the Gunners are among the clubs that have been made aware of Olmo’s availability ahead of the January transfer window.
Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig two years ago and has mainly been used as a rotational option. Despite not always being a regular starter, the Spanish midfielder has enjoyed a successful spell at the club and has helped Barcelona win two La Liga titles.
The 28-year-old also had a productive campaign last season, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 31 starts across all competitions.
His performances at club level have also kept him firmly involved with the Spanish national team, where he has established himself as an important player. Olmo was also part of the Spain side that won the World Cup.
However, Barcelona could now be open to letting him leave.
Reports indicate that the emergence of Fermin Lopez has given the Catalan club more reason to consider a sale, particularly as they look to raise funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Intermediaries have reportedly started sounding out potential suitors, with Arsenal among the clubs offered the chance to sign Olmo in January.
The Premier League side are not alone in the race. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have also been informed about the midfielder’s availability.
There is also interest from outside England, with Bayern Munich and several Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the situation.
Olmo is believed to be valued at around £51 million and still has a contract with Barcelona until 2030. That leaves the Spanish club in a strong negotiating position if they decide to sanction his departure.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Olmo can also play in a box-to-box role or operate from either wing. His technical ability, creativity, passing and goalscoring make him a versatile option for any side looking to add more quality in the final third.
Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze and Max Dowman among their attacking midfield options. Eze has also spent considerable time playing from the left, while Arsenal are understandably managing Dowman’s development carefully.
That could leave room for another experienced creative player, particularly if Arteta wants greater depth in that area of the squad.
For now, Arsenal’s reported interest appears to be at the exploratory stage, with several other major clubs also aware of Olmo’s situation. Whether the Gunners decide to make a formal move when the January window opens remains to be seen.
