Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde could be heading for the Premier League in January, with several English clubs reportedly showing interest in the Spain international.
According to transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, Balde’s representatives have already held talks with Fulham over a possible move during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old has reportedly fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona, leaving the club open to the possibility of sending him out on loan to get regular first-team football.
Balde is also said to be open to a move to England, which could make a January switch increasingly realistic.
Fulham are not the only Premier League side linked with the defender. Sunderland and Everton have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Balde on loan, while Liverpool and Manchester United have also been presented with the chance to explore a potential deal.
For Barcelona, a temporary move could give Balde the opportunity to regain his confidence and playing rhythm away from the pressure of competing for minutes at Camp Nou.
Balde has previously been regarded as one of Barcelona’s brightest young defensive talents, particularly because of his pace, attacking ability and willingness to push forward from the left side. However, increased competition for places appears to have made his position less secure.
A move to England could therefore provide the defender with an important opportunity to play consistently and prove that he still has what it takes to be a regular at the highest level.
With the January window still ahead, it remains to be seen which of the interested Premier League clubs will make a serious move for the Barcelona defender.
For now, Fulham appear to have taken an early step, with talks involving Balde’s representatives reportedly already underway.
