Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Como winger Assane Diao as the club continues to monitor attacking options ahead of a possible future transfer.
According to 4-4-2, United have been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old and have sent scouts to watch him on several occasions. Their representatives reportedly watched Diao in matches against Genoa, Parma and Frosinone, with the club said to be impressed by what they have seen from the Senegal international.
Diao has attracted attention with his performances for Como and his ability to operate in attacking positions. His pace, direct style and willingness to take on defenders have made him an interesting option for clubs looking for additional quality in the wide areas.
Manchester United are understood to be particularly interested, although there has been no formal offer from the Premier League giants at this stage. The club’s repeated scouting trips suggest that their interest is more than just a passing observation.
However, any deal could prove expensive.
Como are reportedly in a strong position when it comes to Diao’s future because the winger is under contract until 2029. The Italian club could demand between €50 million and €55 million for his signature.
That valuation could become an important factor if United decide to turn their interest into a formal approach. The club will have to decide whether Diao is worth making a significant investment in, particularly with competition for places in the attack.
For now, United’s interest remains at the scouting and monitoring stage. No bid has been submitted, but their continued presence at Diao’s matches shows that the winger is firmly on their radar.
With his contract running until 2029 and Como reportedly demanding a fee in the region of €50m-€55m, Manchester United may have to negotiate seriously if they eventually decide to make their interest official.
