Andrey Santos has opened up about his experience working under Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, with the Brazilian midfielder continuing to attract attention since his move to Old Trafford.
Santos joined Manchester United from Chelsea during the summer in a deal worth up to £50 million, becoming Carrick’s first major signing as United manager. The 22-year-old arrived at the club after an impressive spell at Strasbourg and a season in which he made 43 appearances for Chelsea.
There was plenty of curiosity surrounding the move, particularly because Santos was leaving Chelsea for another Premier League giant. However, the midfielder quickly made it clear that he was excited about the opportunity to work with Carrick.
Santos has spoken positively about his early conversations with the United boss, describing Carrick as an important figure in helping him take the next step in his career. The midfielder is also believed to have been impressed by Carrick’s approach and understanding of the game.
Carrick Has Already Shown Faith In Santos
Carrick has also made his feelings about Santos clear.
The United manager has praised the Brazilian’s ability to receive the ball, move possession forward and understand the positioning of his teammates. He has also highlighted Santos’ defensive intelligence and character.
That relationship could become increasingly important as the season progresses.
Santos arrived at Old Trafford with significant expectations on his shoulders, particularly after United invested heavily in their midfield during the summer. The club wanted greater energy, physicality and balance in the centre of the pitch, and Santos was brought in as an important part of that rebuilding process.
Santos Still Has Plenty To Prove
Despite the positive start, Santos knows that his position in Carrick’s starting XI is not guaranteed.
Manchester United have several midfield options, meaning competition for places is intense. Santos will have to maintain his performances if he wants to establish himself as one of Carrick’s most trusted players.
His versatility could work in his favour, though. The Brazilian is capable of contributing defensively while also carrying the ball forward and supporting attacks.
For now, the relationship between Santos and Carrick appears to be a positive one.
The midfielder has already shown that he is comfortable with the demands of playing for Manchester United, while Carrick appears to have confidence in what the young Brazilian can offer.
With the season continuing to develop, Santos will be hoping to turn that trust into consistent performances and become a key figure in Carrick’s Manchester United team.
