Barcelona Still Keeping an Eye on Atletico Madrid Defender Marc Pubill

Barcelona could reportedly find themselves looking at a familiar transfer target once again, with Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill still believed to be on their radar.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona remain admirers of the 23-year-old despite having missed two previous opportunities to bring him to the club.

Pubill was reportedly available for just €5 million in 2023, but Barcelona decided to prioritise a move for Joao Cancelo instead. The Catalan club later made another attempt in 2024, when they explored the possibility of signing the defender on loan.

Neither opportunity resulted in a transfer.

Since then, Pubill’s situation has changed considerably. The defender has gone on to join Atletico Madrid, while his market value has reportedly risen to around €40 million.

That dramatic increase could make a future move to Barcelona much more complicated, particularly given the club’s financial limitations and the difficulty of negotiating with a direct La Liga rival.

Barcelona have continued to monitor young players who could strengthen their squad in the long term, and Pubill’s profile could still appeal to the club. His previous links with the Catalan giants also mean this is not a completely new name on their transfer list.

However, Atletico are unlikely to make negotiations easy if Barcelona eventually decide to make a serious approach. With Pubill now valued at around €40 million, Barca would have to make a much bigger financial commitment than they would have needed just a few years ago.

For now, there is no indication that Barcelona have made a formal offer for the defender. But if their interest remains genuine, Pubill could become a name to watch in future transfer windows.
