Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has spoken highly of Carlos Baleba, highlighting the midfielder’s quality, potential and the important role he is expected to play in the team’s midfield.
Carrick believes the Cameroon international has the qualities needed to improve Manchester United’s midfield balance following his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.
Speaking about the 22-year-old, Carrick described him as a quality player and explained why the club decided to bring him to Old Trafford.
“He’s a quality player, that’s why we brought him here, and he balances off the dynamics of the midfield particularly well,” Carrick said.
The United manager also revealed that Baleba has been eager to return to action after an ankle injury disrupted his start at the club. Carrick explained that the midfielder was desperate to train fully with his new teammates and become part of the squad.
Baleba’s injury meant he had to wait for his opportunity to make his Manchester United debut, despite being an important summer signing. However, he has continued working on his fitness as he looks to establish himself in the team.
Carrick had previously expressed his excitement about signing the former Brighton midfielder, describing him as a player with huge potential and promising attributes that could offer the team different options in midfield.
The midfielder’s physical strength, energy and ability to contribute defensively are expected to provide Manchester United with additional balance, particularly as they look to improve their performances in the Premier League.
Baleba has since made his first appearance for United in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne-Sport, giving him valuable minutes as he continues to build his match fitness.
His return will be a welcome development for Carrick, who will be hoping the midfielder can make a meaningful contribution as Manchester United prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
With Carrick expressing confidence in his abilities, Baleba will now be looking to turn that confidence into consistent performances and secure a regular place in Manchester United’s midfield.
