Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has finally addressed the speculation linking him with a possible swap deal involving Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez during the summer transfer window.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Monday, September 28, 2026, there had been claims that Arsenal could consider using Gyokeres as part of a deal to bring Alvarez to the Emirates.
Gyokeres Was Linked With An Arsenal Exit
Gyokeres joined Arsenal from Sporting CP for €66.9 million and enjoyed an impressive first season at the club, scoring 21 goals as the Gunners won their first Premier League title since 2004.
However, his position in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI became less certain towards the end of last season, with Kai Havertz being preferred in some important matches.
That situation led to speculation that Arsenal could potentially move the Sweden international on while looking to strengthen their attack.
Reports from Spain even suggested that Gyokeres could be included in a possible deal for Alvarez.
FootballTransfers, however, reported that claims Arsenal were willing to entertain such an arrangement were unfounded.
Gyokeres Makes His Position Clear
Gyokeres has now made it clear that leaving Arsenal was never something he was seriously considering during the summer.
Speaking to Swedish outlet SVT Sport, via The Evening Standard, the striker admitted that there was plenty of speculation but insisted that his focus remained on Arsenal.
“Of course, there was a lot of speculation,” Gyokeres said.
“But I had a full pre-season, and it felt good. I was fully focused on Arsenal. For me, staying was a given. I’m extremely happy at the club.”
His comments suggest that, despite the rumours surrounding his future, Gyokeres was never distracted by the possibility of leaving North London.
Frustration Over Limited Playing Time
While Gyokeres is happy at Arsenal, the start of the new campaign has not been completely straightforward for the striker.
The Sweden international has yet to start a Premier League match this season, something he admits has been frustrating.
“Of course, it’s frustrating, no matter where you are,” he said.
“You always want to be on the pitch and make a contribution, score goals. It can be frustrating at times, but I just try to do my best when I get the chance and focus on what I can control.”
Gyokeres Focused On Arsenal
For now, Gyokeres appears determined to fight for his place rather than worry about transfer speculation.
With the season still in its early stages, the striker will have plenty of opportunities to prove his importance to Arteta and earn more minutes on the pitch.
His latest comments also put to bed some of the speculation surrounding a possible move away from Arsenal, with Gyokeres making it clear that he remains happy at the club and focused on contributing whenever he gets the opportunity.
