Carrick Impressed by Diego Leon as Manchester United Consider First-Team Role

Manchester United youngster Diego Leon appears to have made a strong impression on Michael Carrick after getting the chance to showcase his abilities in the friendly against Lausanne.

The young left-back reportedly caught the attention of Carrick and his coaching staff with his performance, particularly his energy and willingness to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Leon looked confident defensively while also showing the attacking qualities expected from a modern full-back. His ability to get forward and remain involved in the game reportedly pleased the United coaching team.

According to reports, Carrick was also impressed by the youngster’s fitness levels. The manager is now said to be considering a gradual pathway for Leon into the first team, with the intention of helping him develop without putting too much pressure on him.

For Manchester United, Leon’s emergence could come at an important time. The club have been looking for greater consistency and depth at left-back, and a young player capable of competing for a first-team place could provide another option.

Rather than rushing the youngster into regular Premier League action, Carrick is reportedly keen to introduce him gradually while allowing him to adapt to the demands of senior football.

Leon still has plenty to learn, but his performance against Lausanne appears to have given the coaching staff plenty to think about.

Could Diego Leon eventually become the answer to Manchester United’s left-back problems? United fans may not have to wait too long to find out.
