Chelsea are reportedly interested in making a huge move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, with a potential deal believed to be worth more than €120 million.
According to ElNacional.cat, the Premier League side have identified the 23-year-old midfielder as a major target and could be prepared to spend heavily to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Fermin has continued to establish himself as an important player at Barcelona, and his energy, attacking ability and willingness to make late runs into the box have made him an attractive option for clubs looking for a dynamic midfielder.
However, Barcelona have no intention of making things easy for Chelsea.
The Catalan club are said to have no desire to sell Fermin, particularly with the midfielder tied to the club until 2031. His long-term contract puts Barcelona in a strong position when it comes to any potential negotiations.
Xabi Alonso pushing for Fermin
The report also claims that Xabi Alonso is pushing for Barcelona to consider the possibility of a major offer for the midfielder.
Chelsea’s interest could therefore lead to an interesting transfer battle, especially if the London club eventually make a formal approach.
Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Fermin himself reportedly wants to remain at Barcelona.
That could prove to be the biggest obstacle for Chelsea. While a fee of more than €120 million would represent a massive investment, convincing the player to leave a club where he sees his future could be an even tougher challenge.
For now, Barcelona appear determined to keep hold of their midfielder, while Fermin’s preference is also believed to be staying at Camp Nou.
Whether Chelsea are willing to test Barcelona’s resolve with a huge offer remains to be seen.
