Rio Ngumoha’s future at Liverpool has attracted fresh attention after Arsenal were linked with a possible move for the young winger.
Arsenal are expected to consider signing another left winger in the January transfer window, with reports suggesting the club could make a move if the right opportunity becomes available.
Ngumoha has emerged as one of the players being monitored by the Gunners. The teenager is currently under contract with Liverpool until 2028, but that has not stopped speculation about his future.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently addressed the situation, explaining that Arsenal’s interest is understandable after the club chose not to directly replace Gabriel Martinelli when he left.
Romano said Arsenal could be among the clubs interested in Ngumoha in the future, although he stressed that Liverpool are currently focused on keeping the youngster.
“There will be strong interest in Rio Ngumoha,” Romano explained. “But at the moment, Liverpool want to keep the boy and Liverpool are discussing a new contract with Rio.”
He added that talks are already taking place, although an agreement has not yet been reached.
“There are conversations ongoing about the contract. Then you still need to get it done. You still need to give the guarantees the player wants and find the balance on every single point.”
Arsenal interest is not advanced
Despite the growing speculation, the latest reports suggest Arsenal have not made significant progress towards signing Ngumoha.
According to Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele, Arsenal’s interest is genuine but remains exploratory rather than advanced.
The Gunners are reportedly keeping an eye on the situation in case Ngumoha becomes concerned about his playing time following Liverpool’s additions in the wide areas.
However, Liverpool currently have no intention of entertaining offers for the teenager.
The club reportedly considers Ngumoha a major part of its long-term plans and believes he will receive plenty of opportunities this season despite the competition for places.
Ngumoha happy at Liverpool
Most importantly for Liverpool, Ngumoha is reportedly happy with life at Anfield.
Steele reports that the youngster is aware of interest from several clubs, including Arsenal and Bayern Munich, but has not indicated that he wants to leave Merseyside.
Ngumoha signed his professional contract with Liverpool in September last year. Because of his age, the deal was limited to three years, while Liverpool also operate a salary structure for young players.
With the winger’s rapid progress over the past year, Liverpool are now keen to reward him with improved terms and secure his future beyond his current contract.
For now, Arsenal’s interest appears to be more about monitoring the situation than preparing an immediate transfer bid, while Liverpool remain determined to keep one of their most highly-rated young players.
