Viktor Gyokeres has admitted that he has been frustrated by his limited Premier League playing time at Arsenal, but the striker insists his commitment to the club has not changed.
According to Football London on September 26, 2026, Gyokeres has featured just twice in the Premier League this season, coming off the bench on both occasions. Kai Havertz has been preferred by Mikel Arteta in the striker role, while Gyokeres’ other appearances have come in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
The Sweden international enjoyed an impressive first season at Arsenal after joining from Sporting CP in 2025. He scored 21 goals in all competitions and played his part as the Gunners won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years.
Things have been different at the start of this campaign, with Havertz getting more opportunities up front. However, the German has now left the Germany camp after suffering an injury while on international duty, potentially giving Gyokeres another opportunity to earn a regular place in the starting XI.
Speaking to SVT, Gyokeres admitted that sitting on the bench more often than he would like has been frustrating.
He explained that every footballer wants to be on the pitch, help the team and score goals. At the same time, he said he tries to focus on what he can control and make the most of his opportunities whenever he is called upon.
There was also plenty of speculation about Gyokeres’ future during the summer, with reports linking him with a possible move away from Arsenal. The striker, however, made it clear that leaving the club was never really on his mind.
Gyokeres acknowledged that there had been a lot of talk about his future but said he completed pre-season with Arsenal and remained focused on continuing at the club. He added that the decision was not difficult because he feels comfortable with his teammates and at Arsenal.
The striker has continued to impress while away with Sweden, scoring in Friday’s 2-1 victory over Romania.
Sweden will face Poland on Monday, giving Gyokeres another chance to maintain his form before returning to Arsenal.
When he returns to north London, Arteta will have another decision to make regarding his attacking options ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League meeting with Leeds on October 10.
The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton in their final game before the international break.
